UPDATE: AUDIO of talk HERE

I will be part of a forum at the Congress on Thursday 16th May, speaking on the need to preserve the objective, natural meaning of marriage. My sub-topic: “The harms to children of legalising same-sex marriage”. Please come along! Then I will be part of a panel on related subjects Friday 17th May. Details in today’s WCF media release:

MEDIA RELEASE:

For immediate release 3rd May 2013 Where do babies come from? Redefining marriage ignores basic truths.

Whilst lobby groups are pushing for the redefinition of marriage in Australia, many Australians are concerned by what effect changing the definition of marriage will have on our country and particularly our children.

With just over a week to go to the 7th World Congress of Families, which will be held in Sydney during National Families Week in May, organisers say that the Congress is a timely reminder that the true strength and prosperity of nations is built on the natural family based on the marriage between a man and a women committed to each other and their children for life.

Mrs Mary-Louise Fowler, chair of the Australian Organising Committee for the 7th World Congress of Families said that redefining marriage would undermine the very thing key to social stability and family strength.

“Those who seek to redefine marriage are ignoring basic truths. The question is ‘where do babies come from and what is best for children?’ Wherever possible, children deserve to be nurtured and raised by their own mother and father, but mucking around with marriage and permitting the further erosion of family structure is not in children’s best interests.

“The World Congress of Families seeks solutions to make families stronger for the sake of our children and for the future of society.” Mrs Fowler explained.

With over 100 speakers converging on Sydney from all over the world, the 7th World Congress of Families unites experts on the family, business, finance, politics, religion, sociology and culture to discuss and explore issues such family breakdown and the redefinition of marriage and the implications these have for families and for society.

The WCF7 will be held in Sydney on 13-18 May 2013. For more information or to register go to wcfsydney2013.org.au
